ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday emphasised the need to strengthen bilateral ties with China with a focus on the economy, trade, and financial sectors in the midst of the country’s current financial crisis.
He said this while speaking with Pang Chunxue, the Chinese embassy’s charge d’affaires, who had just visited the finance minister in Islamabad.
In a statement released by the finance ministry, Dar expressed appreciation for the longstanding historical ties between Pakistan and China as well as for China’s lauded support of Pakistan on several fronts.
The finance minister also gave the Charged Affairs an update on the state of the negotiations with the IMF after the conclusion of the 9th review.
He informed her that, despite challenging economic conditions, the different economic sectors had responded favourably to the Budget 2023–24 proposed by the existing administration.
Dar thanked Chunxue for the assistance and cooperation Pakistan has been getting from Beijing’s authorities.
Chunxue recognised the cordial ties between the two nations and expressed his gratitude. She also promised the people of Pakistan ongoing help from the Chinese government.
According to the statement, the two sides spoke about numerous options that were open to them both in order to take their current collaboration to new heights.
