On Thursday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) summoned the lady who accused former Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam of sexual harassment, saying, “If you want to pursue the case, you should be in court on the next hearing.”
Hamiza Mukhtar had alleged that she and Babar Azam had been dating for a time before he attacked her after proposing marriage. The petitioner claimed that after rising through the ranks, the player failed to keep his pledge.
During Thursday’s proceedings, LHC Justice Asjad Javed Gharal ordered the woman to appear before the court in her personal capacity on February 6.
Babar Azam had contested the lower court’s order to register a case against him, but the LHC has delayed the ruling.
Azeem Akram, a lawyer, represented Babar Azam in court, but Hamiza Mukhtar did not attend. “If the woman does not appear in court on next hearing then I will give my ruling on Babar Azam’s appeal,” according to the judge.
