Govt revises car import policy, bans imports under personal baggage scheme

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) The federal government has altered its policy on automobile importation from outside, enacting new measures to tighten the system.

Cars may now only be imported under the Transfer of Residence and Gift programs, while personal luggage imports are no longer permitted.

The Ministry of Commerce has approved revisions to the Import Policy Order 2022 and issued a notification to that effect.

The government recently increased the time restriction for importing autos from 700 to 850 days.

Furthermore, imported automobiles cannot be transferred into someone else’s name for at least a year.

The program additionally requires used automobiles to fulfill basic safety and environmental criteria.

Vehicles imported via the Transfer of Residence policy must be from the same nation where the overseas Pakistani is staying.

Officials said the revisions are intended to close loopholes and add greater clarity to the automobile import procedure.
