Airbus has contacted Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in response to an emergency landing at Lahore Airport that left one of its back wheels missing.
According to reports, the aircraft manufacturer is conducting a technical inquiry into the occurrence. Airbus has formally requested a full report from PIA on the Airbus A320 aircraft (registration AP-BLS) that operated Flight PK-306.
Airbus has also requested the aircraft’s entire three-month flight data record and checklist, as well as comprehensive information on the landing gear system and other technical issues. Flight PK-306 landed at Lahore Airport on Wednesday night, but one of its back wheels was missing.
Despite three days passing, the missing wheel has yet to be found near Karachi Airport, where it is believed to have separated. PIA’s administration has unable to locate the missing component. Meanwhile, the Board of Safety Investigation is launching a separate investigation into the event.
Earlier, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) stated that the missing wheel of PIA Flight 306 had been located near Jinnah International Airport’s remote parking lot. According to the PCAA, wheel repair staff noticed the separated wheel near the landing gear of a grounded Boeing 777.
Authorities reported that there was no evidence of injuries or property damage as a result of the wheel’s separation from the aircraft.
