WASHINGTON: Donald Trump declared the beginning of a “golden age” in the United States after taking the oath of office for a historic second term as president on Monday (Jan 20), using his inaugural speech to strike out at what he characterized as a “broken” society that he would rescue.
“America’s golden age begins today. “From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected all over the world,” Trump declared at the US Capitol, where the event was performed indoors for the first time in decades owing to chilly temperatures.
While promising rejuvenation, Trump’s tone was typically harsh, condemning what he called a “betrayal” of Americans by a “radical and corrupt establishment”.
“For many years, a radical and corrupt establishment has extracted power and wealth from our citizens, while the pillars of our society lay broken and seemingly in complete disrepair,” he said
“From this moment on, America’s decline is over.”
